Taguchi Tomoki was the editor of Yatsuo no tsubaki, a collection of woodblock prints he created. The book remains a relevant source of art for the later Edo period, with all of its characteristics: fine lines, vibrant colors, irresistible patterns, and an overall simplicity of the graphic compositions.
Blue Masu, as we have named this painting, is another interesting pattern in a beautiful color. The ideograms read "Todaiji Temple, Hachiman Sanctuary, Lovely thick masu in arabesque colors". Masus are traditional drinking cups for saké, avoided by the purists who believe the wood affects the taste of the beverage. Masus were originally used for measuring amounts of rice.
