One of a selection of images that used to be printed on the back of matchboxes - back when smoking and matches and art as part of the day-to-day ordinary things were still trending. Not much information about the artist or company responsible for issuing these boxes is known. This art was intended as an ad for a local Ryokan close to the Matsumoto station. Ryokans are traditional Japanese hotels where visitors sleep in futons. Although phone numbers are no longer 4-digit long, this piece conserves its original charm.
