One of a selection of images that used to be printed on the back of matchboxes - back when smoking and matches and art as part of the day-to-day ordinary things were still trending. Not much information about the artist responsible for the design is known, but the box seems to have been issued by Harima Match Co. The image depicts a couple - possibly husband and wife? - in a somewhat funny situation: the man seems to be fleeing the scene with his pipe as his wife is angry at him due to something he may have done (or forgotten to do). Haven't we all been there before?
