Taguchi Tomoki was the editor of Yatsuo no tsubaki, a collection of woodblock prints he created. The book remains a relevant source of art for the later Edo period, with all of its characteristics: fine lines, vibrant colors, irresistible patterns, and an overall simplicity of the graphic compositions.
Peacock, as we have named this painting, is a delicate representation of a peacock. The ideograms present great context on the time of production of this design, as it mentions the Hachiman Sanctuary Festival at the Todaiji Temple, in Nara. Todaiji temple is a great tourist attraction, and the park nearby is home to many animals - most notoriously deer.
