One of a selection of portraits of urban life, by Moriz Jung, Carambol depicts a work accident within a café. In the image, the waiter seems to be hit by a pool cue, which prompts him to drop two glasses on another customer. Carambole is an obsolete expression that meant "a shot in billiards in which the cue ball strikes more than one cushion before completing a carom".
